Founded in August 2024, END+ (Equality New Delhi +) is a social initiative that aims to address the sociopolitical inequalities that pervade our society by augmenting the politico-legal capacity of students from underserved communities. As such, END+ seeks to increase the agency and capacity of students, with a focus on empowering women, to ensure that individuals from marginalized communities are able to experience inclusive and participatory democracy.
Towards this end, END+ aims to create an open-access database to apprise women from disadvantaged communities about the different amenities they can avail of as part of existing welfare schemes. Further, in order to provide students with hands-on experience of democratic governance, the initiative will help enhance the leadership skills and decision-making prowess of students from vulnerable communities by furnishing them with an immersive experience of a student-led government body complete with its own constitution to allow students to learn about their civic duties as well as their rights and responsibilities. Further, the project also intends to impart knowledge about legal procedures and remedies to ensure that students are able to explore these nuances, along with learning about government policies and schemes, to get a fundamental understanding of the structures that drive our society. To further inspire political participation, END+ aims to develop, publish, and distribute original children’s storybooks, in order to help students understand how change can be realized through structural advocacy and action. In a similar vein, the project also aims to set up a library, filled with political texts, to strengthen the students’ engagement with political ideas and principles.
Through repairing the knowledge deficits that exist within these communities, and making individuals aware of rights, legal remedies, socioeconomic opportunities, and political schemes available for them, END+ envisions a future premised on greater sociopolitical and economic equality.
